What is the e-receipt?
Like the e-invoice between companies, but for sales to consumers. Each receipt is sent to the Egyptian Tax Authority’s e-receipt system, gets a unique number, and carries a QR the customer scans to see the receipt on the Authority’s portal.
Who has to apply it?
The Authority brings registered taxpayers in by phases, each with its own decision and date. Check your phase on the Tax Authority website or with your accountant. Even if your phase hasn’t come yet, preparing your items and devices early saves you time.
What to prepare before you start
- Registering on the systemwith your tax card on the Tax Authority portal, and turning on the e-receipt for your business.
- Registering the cashier deviceEach device you sell from is registered on the portal, and from it you get the Client ID andClient Secret and the device serial number.
- Item codesEvery item you sell needs a code registered on the portal: an EGS (Starts with EG- and your tax number) or a GS1, in the same unit you sell it in.
How it works on ZAIN'S
- Enter the system details onceFrom “Settings ← E-invoice”: the Client ID and the Secret and the device number. Try it on the test environment first.
- Link the item codesFrom the “Item codes” tab, or from each item’s page.
- Sell as usualEvery sale’s receipt goes to the system on its own, and the QR prints on the customer’s receipt. If the internet is down, it goes as soon as it’s back.
- Follow it in one placeThe “E-invoice” page shows every receipt that was accepted or rejected and why, and if something is late you get an alert.
